Jamil Apostol is a multidisciplinary creative, touring musician, author and builder, based in New York City and Miami. Also known as Janardana Das in the devotional community, he has toured through India, the United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Costa Rica — performing across festival stages, yoga spaces and sacred temples, including Bhakti Fest, Shakti Fest, Beloved and Disclosure Fest.

His music moves between two worlds. Under his own name the work is songwriting, folk and Americana — voice, acoustic guitar and sing-along songs, across seven releases since the 2018 album Off the Beaten Path. With Butter Thieves, the group project he founded and fronts, it becomes mantra-fusion: traditional kirtan carried into hip hop, reggae and world music across fourteen releases since 2020, with collaborators including Tulsi Bloom, Radhika Dasi and Alina Kazz.

His first book, The Artist Operator: How Musicians Win in the Age of AI, and Why the Future Still Belongs to Humans, comes out of the same place as the music — the reality of making creative work while running the operation that keeps it alive. Across thirty-five chapters it covers the six jobs every music career runs on, what AI genuinely changes for artists and what it never will, and how to build an audience and an income that survive a lumpy year.

He teaches vocal expression, rhythm and instruments, kirtan workshops and songwriting, and shares Bhakti philosophy with humour and warmth. He is rooted in the lineage of Gaudiya Vaishnavism.
